The Pet Adoption League - Bambi:
One of our heroes is Dr. Margaret Huffman, a pediatrician and animal lover. A little terrier mix dog, then known as Poor Pitiful Pearl, was the victim of a hit and run accident. She was left to die with a broken pelvis and leg as well as an injured tail. Dr. Huffman came upon Pearl trying to live in a roadway ditch, convinced Pearl to come to her, and rushed her to a veterinarian. Dr. Huffman paid for her surgery, shots, and boarding during recuperation. Pearl didn't get to keep her tail because it was too badly damaged, but she's kept her zest for life. As soon as Pearl was recovered sufficiently, she began to appear at the Pet Adoption League showings. Before long Pearl was adopted by a local Tulsa family. However, there was already a Pearl living there. To avoid confusion in her little doggy mind, she got a new name to go with her new life. Bambi, as she is now known, looks the part too. From the rear, now with no tail, she strongly resembles a little deer. Bambi lives with some other dogs and cats; she's friends with all of them. Nobody would think to call her pitiful today. |
